Yesterday I grieved for our country; today I'm grieving for my mom. She passed from this life today totally unexpectedly. Yesterday we laughed, listened to music and colored together. Today I said good-bye as she took her last gulp of air.
And yet I feel she is looking down on me and smiling. She is saying "keep writing, keep caring."
Because it was Mom who showed me how to reach out to people. In the time before Alzheimer's she drove to the houses of seniors for Meals on Wheels, answered calls of distress for Help-line, read books with at-risk elementary kids, visited the elderly, and the list goes on. When she moved in with me in 2012, she brought boxes of thank you cards, written by individuals that were thanking her for various kind deeds.
Politically, Mom was not savvy nor active, but she sprinkled kindness liberally to all she came in contact with.
This is true of my father also. He died in 1999 at the age of 66 but before he left, his life sparkled with humane gentleness.
I owe them both so much.
This blog is dedicated to their memory.
Terri, I was so sorry to hear this news about your mother. Our hearts are with you as you both grieve her loss and treasure all of the beautiful memories that you have of her. God's blessings, Rebecca and Andy Rose
